Hardanger region represents a variety of bedrock formations, with Deep and Supracrustal rocks, mixed with layers of lower, middle and upper Allochthon covers from different periods of time, formed  millions of years ago.

In the mountains at BUER we mainly find Granite and Granodiorite in mixture with Rhyolite and Tuff, which is the dominating rocks below the Folgefonna Glacier.

BUER village is situated on till surface, beneath moraines  from Ice movement and river erosion activity..
